to the range. The defense contract for the operations also receives logistics support
from Chugach Management Services.
The USAS Worthy serves as an instrumentation vessel for ballistic missile testing at the Kwajalein
Range Services. Like other vessels of the
Stalwart Class, she has is 224 feet long, 43 feet wide,
with a draft of 15 feet. She displaces slightly over 1,500 tons and has a diesel-electric plant
powered by four Caterpillar diesels producing 3,200 horsepower. This gives her a cruising speed
of 11 knots. Her sisters serve as training ships at various maritime academies. Vessels of this
class had earlier careers as ocean surveillance ships, where they tracked the whereabouts of
Soviet submarines during the Cold War.
