Are Job Fairs Worth The Time?
Job Fairs and Job Expos can work for the right person. A job fair is a
practical and economical way to bring together a large group of
employers with a large group of prospective employees. There are
hundreds of job fairs that take place across the county. However,
most of them are not for employment within the maritime sector,
leave alone the narrow niche of the towing and transport industry in
particular.

You know what makes us mad?
When an ad for something other than
a job is made to look like an ad for a
job, it makes us mad. We hate to see
that done to hard-working people
who need work. If a person is
looking for work, and they see an ad
that looks like a posting for a job, but
it's really a trick to get them to buy
something, we think that's wrong.
With job fairs (or job expos, job expositions… the words are used
interchangeably and there are no significant distinctions between the
terms), you have to look at the list of employers scheduled to show up.
Try to learn ahead of time what types of positions they are looking to fill.
Like any employment endeavor, preparation will save time. Come prepared
with a good supply of resumes and be prepared to project yourself
confidently to the recruiters.

We’ve provided a couple of links to job fairs conducted by the Military
Sealift Command, U.S. Coast Guard and others. We hope to add more as
they become known.
