A Horrible Accident On The Water
This is footage of a catastrophic accident in which an ocean-going ship
strikes Bridge No. 11 in the Weland Canal, in Montreal on August 8, 2001. It’s
a relief to say that no one was killed or seriously injured in such a serious
accident. If you pay close attention to the first second of the video clip, you see
that the bridge span is actually descending, which is horrifying sight. The
bridge operator had been taking medication for back pain and had
consumed several glasses of wine at lunch that day. What’s amazing is that
the wheelsman remained at his station through the crash as the ship’s
upper works were torn apart and smashed to pieces! To read the accident

Whether an incident or accident is a collision between a tugboat and a ship
or a motorcycle and a taxicab, once the dust settles, people are going to be
pointing fingers of blame at one another. We call that concept “liability”, which

going to be a simple black and white scenario, where a car is stopped at a
stop sign or a traffic control device and gets rear-ended by another car.
